At Doors & Windows (Exeter), we are very proud of our extensive industry expertise and we make it our priority to share this with our customers for them to understand exactly what we have to offer. With this in mind, we have compiled a list of the most frequently asked questions about our Solidor composite doors.

With no complicated terms, industry acronyms, or long sentences, we have simplified the language to make it as easy as possible for you to understand.

What is a composite door and what are they made from?

At Doors & Windows (Exeter) we offer only the best composite doors in the market – the Solidor composite door.

The Solidor composite range is one of the most durable, long-lasting hardwood premium composite door ranges available. Boasting the beautiful appearance of timber yet harnessing the modern low maintenance materials of uPVC, our composite doors definitely have the “wow-factor”!

What is even better is that you can design your dream door online and choose from four different composite door styles: traditional and cottage doors, Italia collection, stable doors, or French doors. There is a design to suit your needs, and of course to match the style of your windows too!

Can I paint an old composite door?

Great question! Our composite doors can be painted; however, this may damage the finished look and feel of your door so we would strongly advise against it.

Instead, you may be thinking “well, what is the best colour for a front door?”. Why not replace an older front door (whether it’s composite or not) with a strong Solidor entrance door? Our composite doors can be designed in a variety of colours; whether you would like to have a timeless black composite door or, perhaps you would prefer a grey composite door, we cater to every personal taste and preference so there should not be a need for you to paint your door.

Is a composite door prone to warping?

This is a common question that we get asked by our customers. “Do composite doors expand in the heat?”, “are they resistant to fading during the summer months?”, “do they crack overtime?”.

The answer to all these questions: no. Due to the materials that they are made from, our composite doors are exceptionally weatherproof as well as highly resistant to fading, warping, bending, and cracking.

Is a composite door energy-efficient?

Yes! Offering unparalleled strength, our composite doors are energy-efficient, boasting insulation levels six times higher than traditional timber doors.

What does achieving the ‘Premium Installer’ status mean for me?

Being granted ‘Premium Installer’ status by Solidor gives peace of mind and reassurance to our customers that all composite doors sold by us have been manufactured by Solidor and approved to their very high-quality standards.
