What is the difference between French doors, patio doors, and bifold doors?

When you think of a patio door, an image of a door that opens out onto the garden or patio area springs to mind. But the term ‘patio door’ has morphed over the years to include multiple styles of doors. These include bifold doors, French doors, and sliding patio doors. However, what is the difference?...

The main difference between these 3 popular door styles is their opening mechanisms. French doors open outwards on a hinge, whereas both bifold and patio doors slide along a track, opening to the side. Bifold doors are made up of multiple glazed panels that, when slid along the track, fold up against each other, whereas patio doors provide a more simplistic opening method. Sliding patio doors are is normally made up of two panes, where the second pane stays in position, and the moveable panel slides into it to create a convenient doorway.

Both sliding patio doors and bifold doors have a modern appearance, while French doors have more of a classic character about them. All of our quality door products come in a variety of colours, with customisable hardware depending on the look and feel of the building.

A service you can rely on

"Brilliant local company. Installed a new door for my father (after a recommendation by a friend). Great product, great price, but (& I can not stress this enough) their kindness & care dealing with an elderly gent, especially regarding the guarantee (so both myself as his son & he could have a copy) was amazing. I genuinely did not believe service like this existed any more. Lovely people to do business with & a company I can thoroughly recommend."
