The above pictures are of a new build house here in Devon and we were tasked with supplying and fitting white aluminium windows and bi-fold doors to the property. The property in question has a special air circulation system and so we were to make sure that the windows were completely air tight as any gaps allowing air to travel from inside to out or vice/versa would make the air circulation system redundant. What is unusual is that there are only a few opening vents in the windows of the house and this is due to the air circulation system.
We also were required to make sure that there was sufficient insulation and expansion foam in place allowing for the installed items to have space to increase and decrease in size whilst maintaining the air tight joints. With 32 individual items to be measured, manufactured, supplied and fitted you can imagine the time this project has taken to make sure every aspect has been covered.
Most PVCu windows that you can purchase on the market today are internally glazed but in the majority of cases aluminium windows are externally glazed with a rubber locking wedge (seal) input around the window internally. Even one of the simplest jobs of glazing the windows became a real head scratcher.
Sealing the windows internally and externally with silicone took some time as well and in fitting the windows we used in excess of 70 tubes of silicone. This is not an insignificant amount, but due to the requirement for complete air tightness around the windows this was a necessity.
Here at Doors and Windows we were pleased to be able to come to a satisfactory solution with the client and builder following receipt of the information on the air circulation system in such a way that the client instructed us for the job. Having said that this is not the first job that we have completed for the client or the builder but in some ways a more important one to any previous as this house was the clients own new build. We hope for a continued relation ship with both the builders and client in the years to come. In fact the job you can see on our case studies page for Ashbury was for the builder concerned also.
